Honeywell Airfield Lighting as an OEM of AGL equipment has fallen behind its competitors in the last decade and has become more of a project management / project solutions company.
The strong point inside the Honeywell AGL portfolio is their ALCMS, Navitas Lights Manager, having a PC (Linux) and PLC. It is reliable, robust and offers some great features for the end user. When ILCMS is needed in the monitoring and control of the AGL systems, the Honeywell ASD unit is as good as any on the market and its version V.4 has a high MTBF.
Where Honeywell struggles is the rest of the portfolio:
- AGL Lights – Does not have a complete portfolio.
- CCR – Outdated design in comparison with ADBSG, OCEM etc.
- VDGS – Has been prone to problems / failures / lack of support
When we have spoken to the airports that have engaged and completed projects with Honeywell their feedback has been mixed. Mega hub airports such as Dubai DXB sing the praises of Honeywell, were some smaller airports say that aftersales service is generally weak with high costs and slow to respond.
